Anti Slip Floor Safety Grooving
Anti Slip Floor and Stair Treatment for Hard Surfaces
What is Safety Grooving?
Anti slip floor safety grooving is a patented scoring process, which is applied using a diamond cutting technique. It grooves a pattern into the existing surface creating an instant traction improvement to slippery floors. The shallow groove acts like a tread and removes the film of water preventing hydroplaning on the sole of your shoe.

Smooth surfaces underfoot seem somewhat precarious, but mixed with water can become potentially lethal, especially when you are least expecting it. Injuries sustained can be painful and costly to all parties concerned. Slip resistant floors can make the difference where accidents are likely to happen. Anti slip floor grooving can be applied as a treatment on most smooth hard surfaces where slips and falls are likely to occur.
What Surfaces would it work on?
- Wet and greasy floor areas in commercial kitchens such as Hospitals, Universities, Hotels and Restaurants
- Airports, Railway Stations, Shopping Malls, and Leisure Complexes
- Entryways and walkways via the stairs or down ramps
- All areas where the public walks and the problem exists
- Brick, concrete, ceramic, marble, terrazzo and similar surfaces
Highways, Agriculture and Airport authorities use anti slip floor grooving to prevent aquaplaning on large areas where skidding or slipping is likely to happen. Using natural surface contours, water can be dispersed by using the shallow grooves as channels, moving the water away from a particular area.
Agriculture yards such as feeding areas for cattle are grooved to prevent the livestock from slipping over on the greasy muddy floors. The grooves prevent the mud and water becoming slippery and traction is maintained.
Local authorities are required to keep roads and pavements to a reasonable standard and grooving assists in this matter. It prevents standing water which degenerates most surfaces and maintains traction beneath moving surfaces, such as tyres and under-soles.
Cost Saving Solutions
If it’s likely to happen then it will happen. By using our anti slip floor treatment you can prevent potential injury claims, and show any outside parties that you are doing something about it. Alternatively you could replace the whole area with a textured surface but this is very costly and can be very disruptive whilst the works are being carried out.
Anti slip floor grooving is cost effective, non disruptive and can be mobilized and de-mobilized in the same day. Clean and efficient, it’s a permanent solution that looks great whilst being functional at the same time.
Castle & Pryor Anti Slip Floor Grooving
We survey your surface area prior to treatment, and a detailed cutting plan is drawn up to ensure maximum efficiency once the treatment has been applied.
Mainly used on concrete, the surface area is grooved using a bank of diamond blades attached to a rotating shaft. This self-propelled cutting tool (see our fact sheet) cuts into the material leaving a series of parallel lines on the surface, releasing the surface tension. These lines can be spaced and cut to suit the surveyor’s requirements.
Cutting formats or patterns are selected dependent on the environment or according to a particular industry’s standard.
Anti Slip Step Grooving
Installing anti slip step grooving is a particularly important safety measure and we have developed a variety of new approaches to this including the use of anti slip high grip inserts.
