Pearce Construction   Pearce Construction logo for concrete floor removal and levelling case study

Requirements:

Reduction in the concrete floor height of the supermarket's storage area to bring it level with the retail shop floor.
2500m of floor space requiring height adjustment.
Work not allowed to impact supermarkets day to day operation including opening hours.
Minimal noise and dust pollution.
Fast track completion compulsory with a minimum of 100m treated per day.
Traditional technique of breaking up the whole floor and relaying it at a lower level deemed too noisy and time consuming.

Solutions:

Protruding floor area segregated into 400m sections.
One section at a time isolated from the rest of the floor area by 100mm thick sound-proof hoarding.
Negative air flow system installed to extract dust particles from the building.
Deployment of Wirtgen W35DC and W50DC mobile milling machines.
Concrete floor level accurately skimmed by 65mm.
Concrete debris easily collected as left in a tidy furrow behind the machine.
Floor left with a textured finish to assist with the laying of new tiles.

Key Benefits:

Environmental
Negligible air pollution within the building due to milling dust extracted outside.
Reduced noise pollution through the erection of sound proof hoarding and use of sub 80db equipment.
Concrete waste levels minimised due to milling technique.
Extra concrete not required.

Financial
Supermarkets opening times and revenues unaffected by the project.
Breaking up and relaying a concrete floor not required.

Time
Work undertaken during shop opening hours, rather than at night, thus reducing the duration of the project.
Finished surface suitable for immediate application of new floor tiles.
