Anti Slip Flooring at RFU Twickenham and Borehamwood
Case Studies of Anti Slip Flooring Using Concrete or Stone Grooving
Grooving concrete or stone steps can significantly improve anti slip flooring properties and public safety.
RFU Twickenham
The redevelopment of Twickenham, the home to the England Rugby Union side, was completed in 1995. The stadium now has an all seater capacity of 70,000 and, like equally impressive stadiums throughout the country, improving public safety is always a key issue. It became apparent that with over 10,000 concrete steps, some anti slip measures were required.
Castle & Pryor, already recognised as a leading company in all forms of specialist diamond cutting and drilling, were contracted to create a device that would give these steps a non-slip capability. The solution was to manufacture a circular cutting tool to groove the exposed step, greatly improving traction underfoot and minimising standing water.
In conjunction with engineers and diamond manufacturers, Castle & Pryor developed the circular grooving tool, as the most practical and economical way to create anti slip flooring on Twickenham‘s 10,000 steps. The design is so unique that a patent has been applied for.
Borehamwood Swimming Pool
At Borehamwood‘s brand new swimming pool complex in Hertfordshire, it was realised that the beautiful limestone entrance steps would impede the partially sighted unless they were given some anti slip flooring as well as visual measures. By grooving the steps a black rubber strip could be inserted close to the edge giving instant traction underfoot and definition to the steps and risers.
